A semantics for updating in the context of causal constraints
نویسنده
چکیده
An agent acquiring information about its environment, either by observation or by communication with other agents, must update its beliefs about the environment. In this way the agent keeps track of the changes in its environment. Usually the agent will not be able to perceive the environment completely. Since most environments do not change very fast over time, the agent may assume that everything about which the agent does not learn that it has changed, will still be the same. This minimal change assumption results in counter intuitive conclusions if an agent has background knowledge describing general (causal) relations between aspects of the environment. To avoid these counter intuitive conclusions, this paper proposes instead of the minimal change assumption, a minimal intervention assumption. Here, an intervention is an action of an agent that changes the environment. A Kripke semantics that formalizes the update process based on the minimal intervention assumption, will be specified.

The Comparative Semantics of ‘Recitation’ and ‘Chanting’ in the Holy Quran and Hadith’s Viewpoint
In linguistics, a study of the relation between word and meaning is called semantics. Semantics is a term for referring to study the meaning of elements of a language, particularly to study the real context of sentences and phrases of a language. The meaning of ‘recitation’ and ‘chanting’ in terms of Quranic, Hadith and idiomatic applications will be identified in this p...
متن کاملUnveiling constraints to cassava production in Cambodia: An analysis from farmers’ yield variations
Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is currently the most important upland crop of Cambodia, but information on yield variations and causal factors which is important for efficiently targeting efforts to increase production is still lacking. The objectives of this study were to determine the yield variations and causal factors for cassava production in Kampong Cham province in Cambodia. Fort...

متن کاملUpdating in XML Using Semantic Constraints
A novel technique for updating in XML using semantic constraints is proposed. In the proposed technique for XML updating, we consider close value pair semantics in ordered XML documents. Further, how semantic constraints can be incorporated with integrity constraints for XML updating and how to update XML views using semantic constraints are discussed.
